Student Security Under Scrutiny After Fatal Attack at Ogun Polytechnic Community

The killing of a student during an overnight robbery attack near D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic has intensified concerns over the safety of students living in off-campus communities.

Reacting to the development, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, called for comprehensive security reforms rather than temporary responses.

The association argued that recurring attacks on student communities point to broader governance and security challenges requiring coordinated intervention by state authorities, educational institutions, and law enforcement agencies.

NANS further urged security agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible while implementing long-term measures capable of protecting students and restoring public confidence.

The incident has once again raised questions about the adequacy of security arrangements around Nigeria's tertiary institutions.
