NANS Southwest Commends Ogun Rescue Operation, Calls for Preventive Campus Security Strategy

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has praised the successful rescue of five abducted students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, while urging governments to shift from reactive to preventive security strategies.

In a statement issued by Coordinator Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, the association applauded the Ogun State Government and security agencies for coordinating an operation that secured the students' release.

Beyond celebrating the rescue, NANS argued that repeated attacks around student communities highlight the need for broader security reforms.

The association recommended intelligence-led policing, improved surveillance around tertiary institutions, stronger community security partnerships and faster emergency response systems capable of preventing future incidents.

According to NANS, protecting students should remain a core public policy priority, noting that educational institutions cannot thrive where insecurity becomes routine.
