NANS Zonal Coordinators Seek Senate Intervention Over Zone A Leadership Controversy

A growing controversy within the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has prompted the Forum of Zonal Coordinators to seek the intervention of the association's Senate leadership.

In a formal letter to Senate President Dist. Sen. Ibeabuchi Moses Onyia, the Forum raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the reported removal of NANS Zone A Coordinator, Comr. Nura Baba Waziri.

The student leaders argued that the matter is not merely about one office holder but about protecting the integrity of the NANS Constitution and ensuring that democratic processes are respected across the association.

According to the Forum, efforts had previously been made to reconcile all parties involved through interventions by former NANS President, Comr. Olushola Oladoja, as well as consultations with relevant stakeholders.

The letter also referenced issues relating to an official vehicle allegedly connected to the dispute, noting that questions remain over decisions taken after its reported recovery.

For the Forum, the central concern is whether the process leading to the Coordinator's removal followed constitutional procedures. The Coordinators maintained that elected officials should only be removed through mechanisms recognized by the NANS Constitution.

They warned that allowing actions outside constitutional provisions to stand could create uncertainty for student leaders in other zones and structures of the association.

The Forum has therefore called on the Senate President to provide guidance on the matter and ensure that constitutional principles remain the foundation of student governance within NANS.
